Unmissable in Havana is the City’s Capitol

A very impressive and historic building.

Constructed during Gerardo Machado´s Government between 1926 to 1929.

Its architecture inspired by :

  • the United States Capitol
  • St. Peter’s Basilica of the Vatican
  • and the Pantheon of Paris.

The main doors to this building are carved with scenes from Cuba’s history.

Also on both sides stand two bronze sculptures representing The Work and The People’s Tutelary Virtue.

Moreover,  under the cupula, we find one Sculpture representing the republic also in bronze and laminated in gold.

It is placed on an onyx marble pedestal in The Lost Steps’ hall 

This hall is one of the most emblematic spaces of the Capitol.

The building also houses other interesting halls.

Most importantly, there is a symbolic copy of the diamond preserved which marks the zero kilometers of the country’s central highway.

Also, the Capitol of Havana is distinguished by a peculiar environment between walks, lampposts, and benches.

There are gardens everywhere with artistic works that surprise us in our way.

In conclusion, a singular elegance situate this architectural jewel

Finally, Capitol of Havana is Declared National Monument in November 2010.
