Cuba and the Harley Davidson Motorcycles
Harley Davidson motorcycles
Harley Davidson motorcycles also have their story in Cuba.
First of all, I will talk about the first tricycle who arrived at the port of Havana in September 1899.
Built-in Italy by Prinetti & Stucchi with three points of support.
Subsequently, in 1903 in the United States, the Harley-Davidson families began a successful construction project in a makeshift workshop located in the courtyard of Davidson residence.
In short, it was that in 1904 the first competition model came to light.
Its production was increasing so within four years later the Harley-Davidson Motor Company emerged.
The American trading company Harris Brothers installed in Havana in 1914.
This company went on sale the first Harley-Davidson motorcycles in the decade of the 20th century.
Unfortunately, bike business wasn’t successful because of the competition with other markets such as the European one.
Therefore Harris Bross decided to sell their franchise to the Bretos’, a family of motorcycle trader in Santiago de Cuba.
Bretos´s with their experience, capital and their favorable relations with the police, had the support of the army for the promotion of the Harley-Davidson in the military and civilian market.
That’s when Harley Davidson is popularized in Cuba.
Cuban “harlistas” celebrate a tournament every year on Varadero beach, province of Matanzas.
The Harley Davidsons came to Cuba to stay.
They roll throughout our country proud to remain as new despite having many of them over 50 years of use.
